Hi there!! Last time I wrote I was feeling quite down, and your comments really, really helped lift me up. I mean that.
So I'm gonna start by posting up one of the most profound things I've heard in a long, long time, and it's on the comments from my last blog post. I know all of you can read it fine by just clicking on 'comments' on the post below, but if it's here, then more people are going to see it.
Vandalin, who has a beautiful blog called MY WAY says:
Some things in life truly are more precious than money, which, in its essence is just a medium of exchange.
And the medium of exchange is only as precious as the things it is exchanged for.
When I first read this, I was alone in a hotel penthouse, looking out across this fabulous city I was staying in. I was seriously alone at that point, and not knowing where to turn, but this comment got me thinking. This is exactly what LIFE is about - 'a medium of exhange'. Every decision we make is an exchange for something else. And this is really what being a celebrity is all about - you exchange a lot of your privacy, a lot of your life and a whole lot of your soul even for a bunch of things like money, luxury, notoriety, and you have to figure out whether that's a good trade. In my case, I don't often think about whether that's a good trade or not. I just kind of get on with it.
By the way, randomly, here's another thing. I'm NOT Mariah Carey, as much as her fans might want to think that. For one, I'm much younger. For two, I'm much prettier. For three, I have much mroe class than that - but I admit she's done real well for herself.
Back to Vandalin's comment, though. I was talking with an A-list movie star whose just had his first baby the other day about what Vandalin said, as we were having one of our characteristicly loooooong telephone conversations where we spend like three hours on the phone together, and we must have spent at least two hours on it. He's a really, really, spiritual guy and believes that we really lack in this world a large component of understanding of anything beyond; to be honest, he get's a lot of shit from the public about it but he's a really wise guy. Let me give you an example from our conversation:
ME: So don't you just think it's SO TRUE? We really do live in a world of exchange?
A LIST MOVIE STAR: Of course we do. And I kinda learned that from being married to name removed - there are points when it's hard, real hard to keep my head together and you know, you're going to shoot at 4 the next morning and you're heads all fucked up and you have to keep smiling and laughing - that's one of the reasons I love what I do. I feel I can give back in my acting a sense of my spiritual soul to the people who are watching - and that's what keeps me getting through it all.
So there you are - the lastest in the crazeeeeeeeeeeee life of your
Anonymous Celebrity 'x'
p.s. I love you all, really.
